To use with Dovo Cut Throat Razors, strop pastes are graded by colours which relate to markings on the packaging (not the colour of the paste) which in turn indicate the coarseness of the paste. In most cases Yellow is all that is required – this is in fact not strictly speaking a sharpening paste but a fat which serves to condition the strop. It is intended principally for use on the leather surface although it can very occasionally be used on the canvas side. One small tube will last a very long time since the tiniest squeeze is all that is required to put new life back into the leather. Simply massage in with a finger when the leather becomes dry and tired (not required for some weeks or even months after purchase of a new strop). The effect is to cause a slight drag on the razor edge when stropping which improves the polishing action. The Red and Green are coarse sharpening pastes, the latter being the most abrasive. These should only ever be used to return sharpness to VERY worn razors and should only be employed by those with a GREAT deal of experience at stropping. Incorrect use of the Red or Green pastes may cause irreversible damage to the razor
