A guide to lighting up on the golf course

A day on the links with friends when the sun is shining is highly enjoyable experience, but how do you make it even better? Simple, you light up your favourite cigar of course!

Puffing on your favourite cigars as you putt is one of the greater and more relaxing things in life, but there are some rules to adhere to, otherwise you could find yourself being fined or worse, thrown out of your golf club!

So have a read of our rules of etiquette and then put them to practice by visiting Havana House and shopping a wide range from Cohiba, Davidoff, Partagas, Rocky Patel and Romeo y Julieta cigars before heading out and looking for that elusive hole-in-one!

  • Respect those around you. If someone seems like they are getting annoyed at your cigar smoke billowing around them, move away or put it out and wait for a better time to light it up – remember to purge though!
  • Share your stogies. If you are playing with friends why not bring a few extra and offer them around? They may decline, but hey, at least you asked!
  • Take care of your cigars. If you have a small travel humidor, that’s great, but if you don’t a small sandwich bag with a damp flannel will suffice and keep your cigars fresh.
  • All golf courses have rules that are enforced for the greens, club house and facilities. If they have banned smoking, stick to the rules and wait until after to light up.
  • Consideration of others is a must, if a group of elders are waiting for you to tee-off they probably won’t want to be waiting in a fog of glorious cigar smoke. The same applies with the children that are more and more frequently seen on the golf course.
  • Golf is associated with their magnificent greens, don’t go ruining them by stubbing out your cigars on the course or laying them down when putting. This can scorch the grass and put to waste the obscene amount of hours that the green keepers put in.

Now it’s time to go and play 18 holes, but, what do you smoke on the links? Here at Havana House we have an unrivalled selection of luxurious stogies, which can actually be overwhelming when it comes to choosing the right smoke. Luckily, we created ‘The Golfer’s Cigar Selection’.

This selection is a real beauty and can be enjoyed at any time, but they can really be savoured out on the course in between shots.

The selection includes the following:

Montecristo Open Master – Amongst the OPEN arrivals is a Robusto. At last this popular size is included as a standard size in Montecristo’s range. No longer will it be necessary to hunt down a rare limited edition when you wish to enjoy the 30 to 40 minutes of enjoyment that this size provides in Montecristo medium to full flavour.

Swag Connecticut Lavish Robusto – This is a medium bodied cigar with Dominican filler and binder tobaccos all wrapped in a unique Ecuadorian grown Brown Connecticut wrapper. A real slow-burning treat which greets you with flavours of Cedar, cream and toast.

Trinidad Reyes – Great quick smoke full of character. Expresses flavours of cocoa and vanilla, even some nutmeg and cinnamon. Great little smoke! Great burn, great taste… a wonderful experience.

Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos – A half corona size cigar. What makes these cigars so special lies in the number 5, which flags the five-year aging process to which all their wrappers are subjected.

Por Larranaga Petit Corona – One of the best Cuban Marevas of the cuban size. A great balance between quality and price, this cigar offers extremely good value. Medium taste, good aroma. One of the most appreciated cigars from this manufacturer.

Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 1 – Full bodied and very complex, a perfect burn and good draw. Very good cigar!! Single cigar.

Davidoff Yamasa Robusto – This interesting cigar will introduce you to an earthy flavour which will be complimented by hints of sweetness and spice. The deep and complex body will slowly reveal an array of beautiful flavours: nuts, spice, coffee, cedar with hints of black pepper. This will really excite your taste buds with every creamy draw!

Swag South Beach Lavish Robusto – The Sobe is a medium-full strength cigar which has a slightly citrus aroma and is spicy yet slightly sweet. It is a true Puro Dominicana with its medium brown Dominican grown Habano wrapper and Dominican filler and binder.

Ashton Petit Corona – A mild cigar that envelopes your mouth with rich, capacious smoke.

Jose L Piedra Petit Cazadores – Hand rolled with short filler. Very pleasant taste and aroma.
