On 12th August 2021, we at Havana House were proud to host the trial of the first UK qualifier of the 2021 Cigar Smoking World Championship in our courtyard in Windsor. This amazing event was hosted by Havana House owner, Paresh Patel. The event was also supported by Rocky Patel and sponsored by Brightleaf Distribution.
Here, we’re going to recap everything that happened at this fantastic event from the history of the CSWC all the way to this year’s championship cigar.
The History of the CSWC
The Cigar Smoking World Championship (CSWC) was started by Mark Bilic in Croatia and is fueled by a genuine passion and love for great cigars.
The first CSWC event was held in Split, Croatia on November 10th 2010. The event lasted three days and saw immediate success with 42 guests and 17 participants from 6 different countries.
Since then, the CSWC has been headed by Mark Bilic alongside Mareva Vice President, Ivana Vrdoljak to create a journey that would bring cigar people together across the world.
The goal of this competition is to see who can smoke a cigar for the longest period of time. As such, there are quite a few rules that need to be followed. Here are some of the key rules:
1. All participants receive the same cigar that they picked themselves from the box.
2. Participants may only use items provided by the organiser. These items include a cigar cutter and a box with two long matches.
3. The winner of the competition is the person who smokes the cigar for the longest period of time without having to relight it.
4. The competition will be judged by two judges and penalty points may be awarded throughout.
If you’re interested in reading the full list of rules, you can request them from the Cigar Smoking World Championship website.
The Cigar Smoking World Championship 2021
The qualifying round of this year’s CSWC was organised by the Women’s International Cigar Club and was hosted by Havana House’s own Paresh Patel. The Championship cigar was the Rocky Patel CSWC Mareva which was produced especially for the event.
The event was also attended by Sarah Saunders (the CSWC UK organiser and founder of Women’s International Cigar Club) and Kolja Kukuk (the Rocky Patel European Ambassador) who were also the judges of the competition.
With 15 competitors, it was a very close call, but Etan Patel took the winning spot with a fantastic time of 1 hour, 8 minutes and 46 seconds. he was closely followed by Billy Bulsara with a time of 1 hour and 6 minutes, 55 seconds.
After such a brilliant turn out, we at Havana House are Ok looking to host some practice events before next year’s Berkshire region Qualifier event.
