Partagas cigars releases new Ramón y Ramón

Industry veterans Partagas cigars are releasing the new Ramón y Ramón. This new four-vitola cigar line will be distributed in October 2016.

The cigar was one of the products of General Cigars Mao Project which focuses on tobacco seed regeneration. The company selected one of its archived heirloom seeds and crossed it with a newer variety of tobacco to create a new tobacco strain called, rather scientifically, PM01. This new seed produces a tobacco that has all the qualities that a vintage tobacco yields and is robust enough to resist disease.

Ernest Gocaj, General’s director of tobacco procurement, who also oversaw the development of the new tobaccos found in Macanudo Mao, also oversaw the process for the PM01. The seed underwent a regeneration process in both Connecticut and in the Dominican Republic growing region of Mao with the company noting that this new seed yields a tobacco leaf that is exceptionally flavourful with sweet notes.

This new Partagas blend uses a Cameroon wrapper from the Belita region, a Dominican binder as well as Nicaraguan Jalapa tobacco, and Dominican Piloto and Dominican tobacco grown from the regenerated vintage seeds. The cigar will come in four sizes; Robusto 5.5 x 50 (£5.50), Maxim Grande 6 x 52 (£5.95), Gigante 6 x 60 (£6.50), Fabuloso 7 x 54 (£7.50)

Alan Willner, vice president of marketing for General Cigar Company said this of the exciting new release:

“In tribute to the legendary Ramon Cifuentes who carried the Partagas brand from Cuba to the D.R., our agronomists regenerated a vintage Dominican seed that had been locked away for nearly 50 years. We are extremely proud of this blend which showcases the very best of the Partagas brand.”
