The story of E.P Carrillo cigars begins in 1959. The political climate of Cuba was harsh and unforgiving. It did not look set to change for some time. With empty pockets, the former cigar mercantile Perez-Carrillo family fled to Miami. Ernesto Carrillo took odd jobs where he could. Nine years passed before he decided that his fortunes lie in re-creating what his family did best in Cuba. Ernesto purchased his our cigar factory in Little Havana and fittingly named it El Credito after the debt he put himself in. Bills piled up and demand for cigars cratered, but Ernesto’s friends in the Miami cigar trade carried him through these tough times, confident that this promising craftsman would eventually succeed. And succeed he would.
