Historical Cigar Selection
Some cigars are intertwined with moment in time and people. The Historical Cigar Selection is linked to some of the greatest cigar smokers of all time. Winston Churchill and John F Kennedy.
Romeo Short Churchill – The “Short Churchill…” When you think about it, it says a lot about the Romeo y Julieta brand, more specifically, the Julieta No.2 – the cigar made famous by the once Prime Minister of England, Sir Winston Churchill. Times have changed. The world has changed. And these changes affect everything – even the modern generation of Habanos enthusiasts. Time is short. Smoking is banned everywhere. People are a lot busier than they used to be in general and as such, changes need to be made right down to the cigars themselves. And that’s fine. You can change the size of the cigar. You can change the length, the gauge, the name and the bands – but the blend… The blend we leave as is. The blend used to create the Romeo y Julieta No.2, dubbed the “Churchill” in honor of it’s most esteemed smoker, is timeless. It is as it should be and needs no alterations. It is legendary. The short Churchill exhibits a very unique profile in that it is both aromatic and packed with flavor. Decadent flavors of sweet spices, nutmeg, cedar and graham are all present in a rich, creamy smoke easily wash away any doubt as to why this brand is still embraced and cherished as one of the finest in the world.
Oliva Melanio Serie V Robusto – The Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto is hand rolled using expertly fermented ligero fillers, leaves know for their robust and rich flavor. Five years in the making, this special cigar is sure to exceed premium cigar smoker’s highest expectations. The Serie V is full flavoured yet smooth. The long filler tobaccos are a blend of Oliva Nicaraguan Habano that emphasizes tobacco from the Jalapa region, an area known for a more nuanced leaf than the Esteli or Condega regions. This carefully aged Jalapa blend produces a particularly flavoured smoke.
H.Upmann Magnum 46 – From Latin, “Magnum” translates to “great.” Fitting, as the Magnum series is truly among the greatest H. Upmann cigar line ever blended. They are among my favorite, considering all Habanos, with the “46” being so in particular. The Magnum 46 exemplifies how size can drastically effect the overall profile of a blend. It’s far punchier than its bigger brothers – the Magnum 48 and 50 – with quite a bit more zest and matures differently as well. From start to finish, this cigar is nothing less than blissful.
Aging Room Mezzo – The Aging Room Small Batch M356 Mezzo Toro is an outstanding medium-bodied cigar from Rafael Nodal of Oliveros. This stunning Aging Room M356 puro (named for the day the blend was created, Monday, the 356th day of the year) is expertly crafted with a rare blend of Habano-seed Dominican Ligero long fillers and binders encased in a dark Habano wrapper. Because of the rare tobaccos used in their blends, Aging Room cigars are created in limited release small batches that sell out quickly. Cigar Aficionado nominated this line as one of the Top 25 Cigars of 2011.
