“Good evening, for whenever this is read it is a cold winter evening when i’m smoking this Por Larranaga Montecarlo which i thought would be a comparatively short smoke while i take a stroll through the 3 degree evening as although it is 6 and a quarter inches it’s gauge is only 33, but i’ll get round to the timings later. This stick does have have a feint smell before lit but distinct though i couldn’t quite nail down the notes. Having lit it with matches and a few strong draws the first flavour i got was cedar but once lit the smoke was cool and delicate and as i walked i could just let it rest, taking occasional draw and i swear the flavour would subtly change between vanilla and a sort of creme brulee. The whole first third maintained this wonderful light changing flavour until i realised that after 20 minutes i was only halfway through which i thought was great! This was when the body of the cigar came through and the subtlety disappeared to be replaced by a much simpler flavour verging on being blunt. given i hadn’t eaten for a while i thought i did need something just to temper the stronger cedar so i had a square of white chocolate, given it was a bit late for coffee, which did surprisingly well as getting to the end of this cigar, verging on 40 minutes after i started whilst on a walk so it should probably be smoked slightly slower, it was getting noticeably stronger. When i smoke another of these, which i would like to, i’d probably smoke it earlier in the day with a coffee but i’d definitely start the smoke before i ordered the coffee and have the coffee with the later two thirds.” – Alexander the Cigar Reviewer
