Cigar Review: Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante

cigar review cavalier

Introduced at the 2016 IPCPR, the Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante was one of two inaugural blends to hit the market by the now-familiar Switzerland-based Cavalier Genève. Company owner Sebastien Decoppet has been producing quality and flavour-filled premium cigars long before entering the UK market. The brand has been a big hit in all of our shops since their recent introduction.

The Beginning

The White Series leads with a refreshing combination of cedar and spice. This is an easy-smoking cigar so far; as for complexity, there isn’t much to speak of. There’s an overall earthiness, but cedar is the main standout flavour so far.

The Middle

The cigar has developed a sweetness that reminds me of vanilla and complements the cedar, spice and earth nicely. I am also getting little pops of sultana. The cigar has a 24k gold leaf on the wrapper; you can just smoke through it and the gold does not change the flavour.

The End

Nothing new flavour-wise, but I didn’t want anything new. The flavours mentioned above are all fantastic. I would happily smoke this cigar at any point in the day.

Burn & Draw

The burn line was straight all the way down; an indication of decent construction. Draw was wide open giving lots of smoke and flavour.

Overall

Cavalier Genève have greatly expanded their portfolio over the years. The White Series for me is their flagship blend, it’s so elegant. Its mild to medium strength makes it a perfect cigar for enjoying in the morning or even the last cigar of the day. Though not overly complex, it does have a well-balanced array of notes including a distinct natural sweetness that pleased the palate throughout the smoke.

This is a box-worthy cigar and an excellent example of a fine Honduran smoke. This is a must-try cigar and worthy of anyone’s rotation. A very easy choice for us as our cigar of the month.

Ross Rating: 9/10

What alcoholic drink would I pair the Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante Cigar with?

The Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante Cigar will pair fantastically with the Craigellachie 15 Year Old 2005 – Old Particular The Midnight Series (Douglas Laing) (70cl / 48.4%).

The flavour profile of this 15-year-old Speyside single malt matches up with the cigar so well.

What soft drink would I pair the Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante Cigar with?

Dr Pepper and Honduran tobacco. It just works.

Would I smoke the Cavalier Genève White Series Elegante Cigar again?

I think it’s good to find a cigar that you can enjoy from every country and this Honduran offering is incredible. I can’t wait to smoke it again.
