Tuxedo’s or T-shirts? What’s Best to Wear on New Year’s Eve

Man wearing suit and watch pulling down his sleeve.

Whatever you’ve got planned for New Year’s Eve, it’s always nice to look good. Whether it’s a big night out with friends or a chilled evening at home, entering the new year in style is a must. So, after the hustle and bustle of Christmas, we recommend taking some time out to think about what your New Year’s Eve attire will be. To help you out and save you having a last minute meltdown, here are some of our top suggestions on what to wear:

Suited and Booted

If you’re heading out to a formal event, what better excuse to go all out with a stylish suit. For many of us, the black tie look is a firm favourite, so why not rock it on New Year’s Eve? A tux paired with some gleaming black loafers will have you looking super suave. However, if you’re after something a little less Bond-like, a tailored dinner jacket, fresh white shirt and brogues will more than suffice. For those brave enough, a clean shave is also a nice touch but if this isn’t on the cards, a quick trim up can make all the difference to a wiry beard. Finally, don’t forget to purchase token cigars to complete this gentlemanly look.

Casual but Classy

For many of us, venturing down the pub or going to a mate’s house party for drinks and dancing (perhaps) is the best way to welcome in the New Year. But just because you’re not ‘officially’ out on the town, this doesn’t mean you can’t dress up. For a casual but classy look, go for a shirt and some dark trousers, perhaps jeans if that’s what you’re most comfortable in. Alternatively, a t-shirt under a blazer is always a great way to spruce up a casual outfit; if you’ve gone for a dark blazer, pair this with some lighter jeans to mix it up a little and create some contrast. Lastly, style these outfits with either a sturdy pair of boots or a clean pair of trainers – New Year’s Eve is not a time for dirty shoes we feel.

Totally Chilled

If you’re not the wildest of party animals, staying at home is perhaps the most appealing option. However, if you’re inviting friends or family over for a few, you’ll have to save your joggers and a hoody for later we’re afraid! For a chilled look that requires minimal effort, go for a t-shirt alone or under a thick jumper or cardigan. Pair with some jeans or casual trousers and if you want to forget shoes, that’s totally acceptable seeing as you’re in your own home.

For us, New Year’s Eve is one of the best nights of the year and a great excuse to get yourself looking good whatever you’re up to. Whether it’s spending time with family or getting raucous with friends, avoid that last minute outfit panic by deciding what to wear well before the last day of the year. Oh, and don’t forget to get the beers in too!
