The 5 ⅛ x 55 Robusto is an extension of the existing Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro line. This is the first vitola in the line that is round, as opposed to box pressed.

The Nicaraguan Colorado Claro wrapper of the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro comes from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua, from the Plasencia tobacco library, and was aged 10 years. The remainder of the tobaccos that make up the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro are all from Nicaragua. Production for the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro comes from the Plasencia factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Beginning

The Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro started with a blend of black pepper, fruit, and earthy notes. Soon, the earthy notes became more prominent. The fruit and pepper notes receded to the background, accompanied by hints of cedar.

The Middle

During the middle of the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro, the earthy notes stayed dominant. The fruit, cedar, and pepper notes complimented them from the background. The main change in this stage of the smoking experience was a gradual increase in the pepper notes.

The End

Towards the end, the earthy notes remained at the forefront. The natural fruit, cedar, and pepper notes stayed in the background, with the pepper becoming the most prominent of the secondary notes. I really didn’t want this experience to end.

Burn & Draw

The burn of the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro maintained a straight burn path and had a straight burn line.

The draw was nice and open, with a big smoke output.

Overall

A medium-strength cigar with a soothing natural sweetness and woody profile accompanied by subtle notes of spice. This beautifully crafted Nicaraguan puro’s red-hued wrapper has been aged for 10 years, which gives this flavourful cigar a mellow dimension.

The Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Robustus II will pair fantastically with the Deeds Original Rum Blend (70cl / 33%).

In the 1800’s rum was brought to the north of England in wooden barrels from the Caribbean and during the trip salt water could sometimes mix with the rum. In Pontefract, they were experts at growing liquorice root which they formed into sweet liquorice cakes called Pontefract Cakes – often called the Yorkshire Penny.

The delicious little jet-black sweets tasted of liquorice, caramel and vanilla – perfect for flavouring, colouring and sweetening the salty sea rum – the resulting drink was a Pontefract miracle!
