The cigar industry has been alight with the news that Cohiba Cigars’ luxury Behike cigar brand is returning to distributors after an 18 month hiatus. You needn’t worry about not being able to get your hands on these premium cigars, as they’ve been a staple in our humidor for some time now, which you can come and pick either in store or online.
Fernando Domínguez, the director of premium brands for Imperial Brands, the partner with Habanos S.A., Cuba’s tobacco monopoly, recently said: “We will see Cohiba Behikes in the marketplace very soon.” The fact that these rare cigars have been available at Havana House show the quality and incredible selection of cigars we constantly have available for customers.
Launched back in 2010 the Cohiba Behike line is an incredible blend of four unique Cuban tobaccos, produced in the highest quality growing region in the world, the Vuelta de Abajo, creating a cigar line that is unrivalled in its complexity and adored by aficionados the world over.
The Behike range comes in three sizes, including the Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year 2010 the BHK 52, which is the smallest size at 4 3/4 inches by 52 ring gauge. The other sizes are the BHK 54 (5 3/4 inches long by 54 ring) and BHK 56 (6 1/2 by 56).
The 18 month shortage was due to the poor tobacco harvests seen over the last 4 years with Fernando Domínguez commenting on the matter before explaining the much adored flavour of the Cohiba Behike line saying:
“It’s about the crop. Tobacco, at the end of the day, is an agricultural product. It’s subject to the weather. The weather conditions—the climate—has not been very good over the past few years.
One of the characteristics of Behike is a new leaf that we added, medio tiempo. It comes from the two top leaves of the plant that are more difficult to get. That’s the reason that explains the flavour, the taste and the scarcity in the raw material. That explains the limited quantities.”
For serious cigar lovers this is a must add to your humidor, a cigar you light up to mark only the most special of occasions.
