Rap sensation Jay-Z has teamed up with leading cigar company Cohiba to create and produce a new cigar, the Cohiba Comador. The two parties took two years to design and produce this luxurious cigar and the result is something special for the cigar aficionado with a taste for the finer things in life.
The process starts as all plants start, the seed. The strain of tobacco is carefully selected from a 25-acre plot of land in Connecticut next to the Farmington River, which floods enriching the soil with certain nutrients that give the plant its distinctive taste. Next, the best leaves are selected and aged in rum barrels in the Dominican Republic before being transferred to Cohiba’s master cigar rollers, where they are rolled with the finest tobaccos from South America and the Caribbean Basin.
This results in a cigar that leaves a sweet creamy finish on the tip of the tongue with notes of espresso, cocoa and pepper with a super smooth exhale. The result of this collaboration makes it a rare cigar only available only at a handful of retailers across the U.S., which include Jay Z’s 40/40 Club in New York, obviously. Its price also shows the luxurious nature of this fine cigar: $210 for a regular pack of seven cigars, $350 for seven in a Spanish cedar-lined travel humidor and $999 for 21 of them in a pebbled-leather humidor.
Of course there will be haters that say Jay-Z has only contributed his name with a licensing agreement. Dan Carr, Chief of General Cigar disagrees stating “Jay has been involved in every detail.”
This is a cigar that’s not for the everyday smoker, this is for the people with distinctive taste who enjoy a finer smoke and enjoy collecting limited edition cigars. Carr wouldn’t confirm the exact amount being produced, but even the maximum of 3,000 would translate to just 21,000 Comadors.
