An elite group of cigar makers and blenders have released one of their private blends. The Montecristo Grupo de Maestros Private Batch II will be released to the public this year.
The Montecristo Grupo de Maestros Private Batch II is the second release in the limited-edition series, which pays tribute to their 250 years of combined experience in the cigar industry. The Grupo de Maestros are made up of Altadis USA’s senior managers and are led by Javier Elmudesi, general manager of Tabacalera de Garcia. The rest of the group is Victor Avila, Carlos Travieso, Nestor Rodriguez, Candido Rosario, Pedro Ventura, Joel Alvarenga Bautista and Elmer Suarez. Their expertise has seen them create some of Altadis U.S.A.’s more recent blends, including ROMEO by Romeo y Julieta, VegaFina Fortaleza Dos and the Montecristo Epic.
The Private Batch II has a variety of vintage tobaccos; an Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper from a 2013 harvest surrounds a Nicaraguan binder (circa 2012) and a mix of Dominican piloto and Nicaraguan fillers from 2009 and 2011, making for a truly special smoke. The cigars will come in one size only, a 6 inch by 50 ring gauge Toro, with only 250 boxes of 100 cigars each being released, making this one to get your hands on and store a few away!
There are some awesome details with this limited batch; each cigar has the famous Montecristo fleur-de-lis band in addition to a slightly frayed secondary band indicating which of the 250 boxes the cigar comes from. The boxes themselves are old cedar shelves that have been transformed into specially numbered crates and are wrapped in burlap printed with an artistic mural of the men behind the creation, The Grupo de Maestros.
