Davidoff unveils their new Yamasá cigar

Davidoff have finally revealed their new cigar which is set to debut at the 2016 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show. The leading cigar manufacturer is releasing the Davidoff Yamasá after taking inspiration from the region where the tobacco is grown in the Dominican Republic located just 20 miles north of the nation’s capital, Santo Domingo.

This robust cigar uses a wrapper from Yamasá, a San Vicente binder also from Yamasá and filler tobaccos from Condega and Estelí, Nicaragua as well as Dominican piloto and mejorado tobaccos, making for a truly special smoke.

Davidoff is no stranger to the area, as they have been growing tobacco for over 20 years in Yamasá, a region that surprisingly is not known for being friendly to tobacco. While the company employs leading scientists, notably Manuel Peralta, to help understand as much as possible the tobacco growing process, sometimes the company and its Dominican growers go with their intuition and gut instinct when it comes to their cigar process.

However the company realised it needed to increase the pH level of the soil in Yamasá and did so by hand on a plant-by-plant basis, showing just how the slightest change can reap in the rewards.

It then worked to find the best three seeds amongst 30 and opted to use only 21 of the 100 hectares of land available as part of this military style operation, with Davidoff acknowledging that the majority of this strategy was done based on Henke Kelner’s intuition and expertise.

The Yamasá tobacco’s special treatment didn’t end there, as the company built climate controlled storage areas for the tobacco as it was removed from the field, hung, dried and cured.

This special cigar will come in four sizes: Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 52), Pirámides (6 1/8 x 52) and Petit Churchill (4 x 48). The three larger sizes come in boxes of 12 while the Petit Churchill will be packaged in boxes of 14. Also all four sizes are offered in four-packs.
