The brand was founded in 2003 by Pete Johnson, a Los Angeles–based musician turned cigar maker, who partnered with the legendary José “Don Pepín” García to bring his vision to life.

From the beginning, Johnson wanted to capture the essence of old-world Cuban cigars—bold, balanced, and crafted with tradition in mind. All Tatuaje cigars are produced at García’s factories in Nicaragua, such as My Father Cigars S.A., ensuring consistent quality and expert craftsmanship.
