Davidoff cigars are adding another line to their long and illustrious collection of stogie’s, with the latest release, the ‘Winston Churchill Late Hour’, sure to delight connoisseurs the world over.
What makes this new addition so intriguing is the use of Viso tobacco leaves from Condega in Nicaragua, which have been aged in used single malt Scotch whisky barrels from leading manufacturer Speyside. Once in the barrels the Nicaraguan tobacco is aged for three months, where the tobacco undergoes a further fermentation as after three months, the tobacco is rotated and moved around and then left for another three months!
This aged Nicaraguan tobacco is part of the filler tobacco and joins Dominican Olor Viso, Piloto Seco and San Vicente Mejorado Viso, as well as one final variety, Visos from Estelí, Nicaragua. To finish this magical Davidoff cigar off is a Mexican San Andrés Negro binder and an Ecuadorian Habano Marron Oscuro wrapper.
The cigar will come in the following three sizes:
- Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Robusto measuring 5” x 52 ring gauge — £13.95 per cigar or boxes of 20 for £279.
- Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Toro measuring 6” x 54 ring gauge —£14.95 per cigar or boxes of 20 for £305.
- Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Churchill measuring 7” x 48 ring gauge — £15.95 per cigar or boxes of 20 for £319.95.
The cigars will first be available in the U.S. market later this month, and the Winston Churchill Late Hour ships to Switzerland on at the start of August and other locations in Europe in autumn. In Europe, it will also be offered in both boxes of 20 as well as four-packs.
Randolph Churchill, great-grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, said at the press release for this future iconic stogie:
“The late hours into the early morning was the time when Churchill would gather all those resources together and commit himself to working, whether it was on his books with his research advisors or with his military people deciding the course of action. So, the late hours and the dark hours were when Churchill was his most productive in life. And he was never without a cigar.”
Going alongside this new cigar line is an impressive new Winston Churchill accessory line. It’s highlighted by four humidors, two designs, ‘The London’ and ‘The Union Jack humidors’, each of which are offered in either Ambassador or Primos sizes.
The Ambassador can hold 70-90 cigars with a removable basket and measures 15” x 9.45” x 5.63”, and the Primos is designed to hold 25-35 cigars, and measures 11” x 9.4” x 4.25”. Both humidors are made from African Okoumé wood, a species chosen specifically for its lack of odour, and come with a single Davidoff slim regulator, the company’s humidification device.
There will also be Davidoff’s French porcelain ashtray, which is limited to 115 numbered pieces. The company has also created new whisky glasses with two notches designed to act as a cigar rest!
Charles Awad, SVP of marketing for Oettinger Davidoff AG added:
“The aim was to craft a new range of contemporary Davidoff Winston Churchill accessories inspired by a key facet of the man himself – his statesmanship. Sir Winston Churchill’s leadership role in British politics for over 55 years, as well as his well-known fondness for fine cigars and Scotch whisky, were a great source of inspiration for Davidoff’s teams of designers and craftsmen. The attractive designs of this new range, as well as Davidoff’s unparalleled technical expertise, will make the cigar ritual and the enjoyment of today’s discerning aficionado.”
