Largest Collection of Whisky/Whiskey Bottles

A whopping collection of 10,500 unduplicated and unique whiskey bottles is owned by Alfredo M. Goncalves of Lisbon, Portugal. The collection is available for viewing at “Whisky & Co”, his shop located in Lisbon. Alfredo’s collection started 40 years ago, while he was running a travel company which allowed him to visit various locations and collect the bottles. He has opened his shop to allow his collection to be viewed by the public. The record was set in 2005 and is currently unbeaten.

Oldest Operating Scotch Whisky Distillery

Strathisla whiskey distillery

Set in the year 2000, the record remains unbeaten as the distillery is still fully functional and firing on all cylinders. Located in Keith, Scotland, the Strathisla Distillery was founded in 1786 and has a rich backstory and history; they even offer tours all year round. The distillery was actually damaged by a fire 1870s and was rebuilt with much the same appearance that it has today.

World’s Oldest Whisky/Whiskey

Belonging to Mr Adam Herz of Los Angeles, United States, the oldest whisky is the Baker’s Pure Rye Whiskey distilled in 1847. The record was verified on the 1st November 2018 so is still very fresh in the books! Currently, the exact source of the whiskey is unknown; however, it could have potentially come from Maryland or Pennsylvania.

Largest Bottle of Scotch Whisky

Famous grouse Whisky

Created by The Famous Grouse, the largest bottle of whisky stood at a huge 5ft 7in tall with the cork in and contained 228 litres. The bottle was unveiled and the record was presented at The Famous Grouse Experience in Perthshire, Scotland in August 2012. The filling of the bottle was to mark The Famous Grouse brand birthday and the start of the shooting season for red grouse called the ‘Glorious Twelfth’.

Most Varieties of Whisky/Whiskey Commercially Available

Although it may sound like a myth or a dream, there is, in fact, a place that offers 1000 whiskies, 1179 to be precise. The record-breaker in question is Hotel Skansen in Farjestaden, Sweden who claimed the record in June 2018. The immense collection includes bottles from Scotland, Canada, Thailand, Japan and many others. There are many pricey bottles in the collection with the most expensive being a Chinese whisky called Diaoyutai which costs 999,000 Swedish Kr, approximately £85,500.
