The incredible Cohiba Medio Siglo

After being introduced at the iconic Habanos Festival in December 2016, the newest Cohiba cigar has finally arrived at Havana House.

The latest addition is part of their much adored ‘Siglo Series’, with the new Cohiba Medio Siglo the first new size added to the series in 15 years, since the ‘Siglo VI’ was introduced back in 2002, and like all new releases from the legendary Cuban cigar company, it’s received much attention.

The Cohiba Medio Siglo was part of a trio of new releases to commemorate the brands 50th anniversary and was unveiled along with the Cohiba 50 Aniversario and the Cohiba Majestuosos 1966.

The cigar is manufactured in arguably the most beautiful cigar factory in the world, El Laguito in Havana’s Cubanacán district, with the cigar coming in one of Habanos’s most popular sizes, a Petit Robusto. Measuring in at 4” x 52 ring gauge, it has the length of their Siglo I but the girth of a Siglo VI, making for a truly remarkable smoke. The flavour profile of this cigar is one to behold, expect to taste black pepper, wood, earth, sweet cream, spice, white pepper, cedar, cereal grains and even croissants at different stages of this cigar.

As we mentioned earlier, this is a cigar for serious cigar aficionado’, as Cohiba is Cuba’s top cigar brand, and as such, it comes with a top price, with a single cigar is priced at £20.50 and a box of 25 sticks costing £519. A great cigar to treat yourself with after a long, hard week at the office, or a great cigar to start your weekend off, with a smoke time of 45 minutes to one hour, this is a great stogie to pair with a pot of fresh coffee as the sweet creaminess bounces off the taste of coffee perfectly.

Even though it was released at the end of December, Cigar Journal recently named the cigar in their Top 25 cigars of the year, showing the quality of this stogie, where they used the following description:

“The cigar’s delicate sweetness harmonizes beautifully with its subtle bitter notes. Cedar and earthy aromas are underpinned by elegant spice that later gives way to fruitiness. Medium-bodied+.”
