The Beginning

The start is blissful. A spice backbone with surrounding chocolate and cedar. Retrohaling allows for a more prominent spice to shine and also gives milkier chocolate notes.

The Middle

The second third started out with cocoa, spice and earth, with the finish still comprised of earth, as wood provides a background note. As the middle settles in, black tea returns at the end of the draw. Wood comes back in intensity on the post-draw, bringing with it subtle tannins.

The End

To no surprise, the final third was right in line with the first and second. Sweet spice, wood, leather and cocoa. You can get that cinnamon and black pepper notes. A sharp profile throughout. It is full in strength and body.

Burn & Draw

As has been my experience with Rocky Patel cigars, the burn was sharp and produced an ash that held on up to one-inch increments before I would knock it off.

The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.

Overall

To me, the blend is the kind you’d smoke on a Friday night. No work in the morning to worry about, no appointments… just you, the cigar, and not a care in the world. I’d recommend that you smoke it alone, at least the first time. There are so many subtleties that you’ll miss if you smoke it amid conversation.

Ross Rating: 8/10

What alcoholic drink would I pair the Sixty By Rocky Patel Cigar with?

The Sixty By Rocky Patel Cigar would pair fantastically with the Elijah Craig Small Batch Ryder Cup Edition Bourbon.

From Heaven Hill Distillery comes a limited-edition Elijah Craig whisky, created to commemorate the 2023 Ryder Cup. Elijah Craig is the “official Bourbon of the Ryder Cup”, don’t you know? The whiskey was made by taking fully matured Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon and then finishing it in toasted and charred new European oak barrels to bring bigger, bolder, and spicer flavours to the fore.

What soft drink would I pair the Sixty By Rocky Patel Cigar with?

Coca Cola Regular – it just works.

Would I smoke the Sixty By Rocky Patel Cigar again?

Rocky Patel was one of the first cigars I ever smoked, so they hold a place in my heart. They are always on point with construction and flavour. The Sixty is a great smoke, and I’ll have another one soon.

In my opinion, you can rely on Rocky Patel for a good smoke. Two of my recent favorites have been RP: this Sixty, and the Vintage 1992. Over a few weeks I will have several other cigars, and remain pleasantly surprised when I light a RP and taste the difference on first draw 😉
